Learn to Draw and Paint in Andalucía, Spain
2020 - Sunday 10 May to Saturday 16 May 2019
Join ArtSplash tutors, Francine Lawrence and Susi Hoyle, for a fabulous week of drawing and painting in a beautiful location in Southern Spain.
If you think you can’t draw but have always wanted to, then spend a week learning with Francine and Susi who have successfully taught over 1000 people to draw. If you have done a little drawing and painting but would like to develop your skills, then this is a great opportunity to improve and learn new techniques in a creative atmosphere.
Susi and Francine are experienced art teachers with lots of patience so don’t worry if you are an absolute beginner. Equally we’ll help you develop your skills if you have a little experience under your belt.
Where - Finca Buenvino is a delightful, family-owned farmhouse hotel set in a forest of cork and chestnut trees, in the hills of the Sierra de Aracena. It has comfortable rooms, great food, several self-catering cottages, and an environmentally-friendly saltwater infinity pool. Seville is just 100 km away and the pretty, bustling town of Aracena is just7km away.
Food - Eating at Finca Buenvino is an experience in itself – owners Sam and Jeannie Chesterton have a well-deserved reputation as warm and welcoming hosts. Jeannie is well-known for her wonderful cooking using local produce. Delicious breakfast and lunch, and magical dinners alfresco are included – with wine.
The Course - We’ll start with pencil and charcoal for some basic exercises and then move on during the week to experiment with pastels and water-soluble pencils. For those who are ready we’ll progress to pen and ink and watercolours (we use vibrant and intense watercolours - nothing ‘wishy washy’! ).
We’ll be based in a studio by the pool at Finca Buenvino but will take full advantage of the wonderful location around the Finca to draw still life, flowers and fruit (and perhaps pigs and chickens!). There will be two or three trips to nearby villages to sketch local scenes and hopefully local flamenco dancers.
By the end of the week you will have completed a portfolio of drawings and paintings and have begun a sketchbook
When - Sunday 10 May to Saturday 16 May. We’ll meet on Sunday evening around 5pm (tbc) for drinks and to meet fellow guests. Followed by supper on the terrace.
The first session is on Monday morning, then we’ll draw, paint and sketch different subjects using different mediums each day. We’ll work most mornings from 9.30 – 12.30 before a break for lunch, then back to the studio or take a trip to a village before finishing at 4.30pm. There will be plenty of opportunities to walk in the shady woods, swim in the gorgeous infinity pool and take in the breath-taking views – or grab a late siesta before drinks and candlelit supper in the evening.
Course ends on Friday afternoon, with the farewell dinner on Friday evening. Students depart on Saturday morning
Transport during your stay - We will have a mini bus to take us on the short trips (10-20 mins) to villages nearby.
Getting to Finca Buenvino - There will be a pick-up in a mini-bus to collect people from the centre of Seville on Sunday 10 May (time to be confirmed) for the 75-minute drive to Finca Buenvino, and another at the end of the course on the morning of Saturday 16 May to take people back to Seville airport.
Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to Finca Buenvino costs approx. 125 Euros.
There are several car hire companies at the airport and the rail station in Seville.
Intrepid travellers might like to take the bus – about 10 euros for the 90-minute ride. You will need to check the timetable online.
If you would like to combine your art holiday with a night or two in Seville at the beginning or end of your trip – it’s best to book early as there are several festivals that could on at the same time. We like the Hotel Simon – lovely old building – nothing fancy but reasonably priced and very central.
