The Beginners’ Drawing course is for suitable for those who have done just a little drawing, but want to develop their skills.

Whatever your level, we’ll show you how to draw what you REALLY see – not what you think you see!

This is a short introductory course for those who don’t know where to start. We begin with the absolute basics:
• how to hold the pencil (artists hold it in a different way!)
• 2B or 6B - which pencil to use?
• how to make an apple look like an apple!
• simple perspective
• easy drawing techniques
• how to make objects look 3D
• small groups and plenty of personal feedback given

Suitable for anyone who has done our Absolute Beginners Introductory course or for anyone who has done a little drawing before. This is an ongoing weekly class where we explore sketching techniques and different drawing mediums. It’s fun and there’s no judgment. We cover still life, how to draw glass and shiny objects, trees and flowers and first steps in figure drawing, simple perspective and much more.

We explore all drawing mediums from charcoal, pencil, pastels and pen and ink. See below for a list of materials you’ll need for these sessions.

What you’ll need

FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

• A4 or A3 pad of cartridge paper 180 – 200gsm
• HB, 4B , 6B pencils or similar
• Charcoal - medium willow

• a black pen - a Berol handwriting pen is good and cheap! - available in supermarkets and newsagents

FOR MONDAY DRAWING class
You’ll need the items above plus these:

• A couple of drawing pens – 0.3 and 0.6
• A dip-in pen (a calligraphy pen with a normal nib is good)
• Indian Ink – a small bottle
• An A4 pad of tracing paper
• ‘Inscribe’ soft pastels 64 (about £12)
